How We are Different

The Orion Advantage

  • Value

Orion Communications, Inc. continues to grow steadily and profitably by providing our customers a higher level of value than our competitors; by setting high standards of performance and by exceeding our customers' expectations.

  • Complete Proposals

This value begins with the proposal. Contrary to most cabling proposals, Orion provides complete descriptions of the work to be performed and detailed descriptions of all components and materials proposed. Pricing is spelled out in great detail, providing line items for each component and service. All costs are identified up front and nothing is left to the imagination. This is very unusual in the cabling industry, where hidden charges are the rule. Our pricing is very competitive, but we are rarely the "low bidder". We are usually selected because of our "fair price", the strength of our references, and our clear understanding of the scope of work.

  • Lifetime Warranty

Because Orion uses only the highest quality, field-proven components, we can confidently extend the normal manufacturers' warranty to a lifetime warranty. This means Orion will replace any defective part at absolutely no cost to our customer for one year after installation. After the first year, only a labor charge will be incurred; never a charge for parts or materials. This applies for as long as our customer occupies the space. This adds further assurance that an Orion installation will minimize network downtime.

  • Professional Workmanship

Once contracted to perform the work, our professional demeanor and work habits provide a smooth installation with a minimum of disruptions to our customer's work. All installations are neat and orderly, and wiring closets are professionally dressed to avoid "spaghetti". This allows our customers to easily read the labeling on the patch panels and punch blocks. We practice professional wire management techniques here, as well as in the ceiling. Cables are bundled and suspended from the slab by their own means. This assures that wires will not interfere with electrical devices such as power cables and fluorescent lighting fixtures. Each area affected by the cabling installation is returned to its original condition, and is left clean and tidy.

  • Adherence to Standards

All of Orion's installations are professionally designed to adhere to the standards and specifications of the various organizations that govern the telecommunications and data communications field. These cover specifications for all components used, as well as workmanship, such as wire management techniques and termination procedures. This is a critical factor in deciding between competing vendors. Most telephone switch installers simply do not have the level of understanding necessary for data cable installations.

  • No Surprises

Once completed, the job is invoiced exactly as proposed, without change orders or add-ons. The only extra costs incurred would be caused by customer mandated changes to the original work order. We believe that your selection should be based on a "real" price proposal. This is a highly unusual way for a cabling vendor to behave, but we know our customers dislike unpleasant surprises.

The Service Industry

Orion strives to conduct itself in a manner consistent with the highest-quality service, provided in a timely and professional fashion. This contrasts with most people's negative experience with the service industry, which is normally based on one or more of the following issues:

  • The vendor doesn't show up when he promised.
  • The vendor started the job, then disappeared.
  • The quality of the work was not what was expected.
  • The vendor did not finish in the promised time frame.
  • The invoice was larger than the estimate.
  • Items assumed to be included in the estimate were billed as extra "change orders".
  • The vendor dishonored the stated warranty.

Orion desires to demonstrate proof that our customers' experience will be positive. We have taken several proactive steps to assure that the above issues will not be a part of this experience. These steps are as follows:

  • We train our technicians and installers in the latest industry standards for workmanship. These include the EIA/TIA 568, 569, 606 and 607 standards, the National Electrical Code, and all local building codes.
  • Orion relies on a five-level technical classification systems to match specific technical capabilities with each phase of each project. Personnel are selected for each project based on their previous experiences and technical capabilities.
  • We over-allocate manpower for each project by 15%. This allows for unforeseen problems or delays without affecting your important completion dates.
  • We can accelerate installation schedules by adjusting manpower levels. If necessary, we can rely on sub-contractors to handle very large project requirements with short timeframes.
  • All projects are completely tested and certified for proper operation when completed. Test results can be provided in written form.
  • Our products are warranted for the life of the installation. Additional extended labor warranties are available.
  • Our "no surprises" policy is that you pay the price stated on the proposal, unless you make changes to the scope of work. You are not penalized for our failure to accurately estimate a job.
  • Our proposals are the most complete in the industry. They spell out in detail every component and every event to be provided, listing all costs in detail.
  • We focus our resources. Orion is not engaged in the telephone business or in computer network integration. This allows us to focus our technical energies on one thing, and do it well.
