The Orion Story
Orion Communications, Inc. was incorporated in the state of Maryland on March 27, 1991. It is a privately-held corporation. The company is owned and operated by Philip_G._Donnelly, the current President. Orion has provided structured cabling installation services continuously since its inception. Since the company has no publicly-owned stock, financial statements are not generally made available. All of the revenue will be derived from the company's core business. Orion does not resell telephone systems or computer networking or integration services.
Prior to founding Orion, Mr. Donnelly spent almost ten years in the communications cabling business, as installer, crew foreman, operations manager and vice president of technical services. These experiences left Mr. Donnelly with a negative impression of the cabling industry in general. He felt that many of their business practices were unethical, unprofessional and that this left customers with a negative impression as well. Mr. Donnelly decided to form his own company, to be dedicated to certain simple but important goals:
- Adherence to Standards
Orion would design and install all cabling plants in accordance with the most recent standards and specifications of the industry. These include IEEE, NEC, ANSI, EIA/TIA, UL, OSHA and all local building codes. Components used would be standardized, and all installations would be certified compliant with these standards.
- Complete and Accurate Proposals
Orion would be complete and honest in its dealing with its customers. All materials and labor needed to professionally and correctly complete the job would be disclosed up front. No hidden costs would surprise the customer later. Orion would not earn its money via change orders like so many of its competitors would.
- Professional Workmanship and Appearance
Orion would provide highly competent installations through professional, industry-standard workmanship techniques. This would include wire management, clean terminations and labeling. Technicians would be clean-cut and properly attired.
- Lifetime Warranty
Orion would use only the highest quality components and materials, extending the manufacturer's warranty to a lifetime warranty to our customers. This would eliminate the possibility that a customer would pay twice for a component.
- Focus on Growing the Core Business
Orion would remain focused on the business of cabling, growing by doing this one thing well. It would not diversify into telephone systems, local area networks, computers or other hardware sales. Technicians would concentrate on perfecting their trade in all its aspects, and would stay abreast of the latest industry standards and specifications.
- Satisfy Customers, Not Lenders
Mr. Donnelly would remain closely involved in the day-to-day affairs of the business, focusing on customer satisfaction above all else. He would grow the business without outside financial investment, so the company would never be in jeopardy of being controlled by others. This would allow Mr. Donnelly to invest in high-quality people, free from the pressures of short-term profit performance.
